Lake Mead is the largest of Nevada's Lakes. There are literally hundreds of miles of shoreline to explore. Lake Mohave, near Laughlin NV, is also part of the Lake Mead National Recreational Area. It offers two full service marinas, one at Katherine Landing on the southern end of the lake and another at Cottonwood Cove on the western shore. Visitors will find campgrounds, boat rentals, stores, restaurants, and Lake Mead National Recreational Area visitor centers.
Three of America's four desert ecosystems the Mojave, Great Basin and the Sonoran Deserts -- meet in Lake Mead National Recreational Area. As a result, this seemingly barren environment contains a surprising variety of plants and animals, some of which may be found nowhere else in the world. |

The area around the Lake Mohave and along the Colorado River below Davis Dam also provides a lot of recreation areas for fishing, boating, swimming, water skiing, wave runners, camping, picnicking, exploring, auto touring, photography and "just relaxing."
There are many beaches that can only be accessed by boat. During the summer, boaters seek out their own beach site for a camp from which they then swim, water ski and relax. If you like to fish for trout, the clear waters at the upper end of the lake are excellent, while Largemouth and Striped Bass are taken from the lower reaches of the lake. Near the dam is a good place for Stripers. A fishing license from either Arizona or Nevada, to which a special-use stamp from the opposite state is attached, is required for those wishing to fish on Lake Mead or Lake Mohave.
